Live stream: CIA director Mike Pompeo faces Secretary of State confirmation hearing amid Syria crisis, other threats

CIA Director Mike Pompeo, President Trump's choice to lead the State Department, faces senators at his confirmation hearing Thursday amid dangerous crises looming with Russia, China, and Iran.

Pompeo is a a former Republican congressman with a reputation for a hawkish approach to American security. He's been a point of contention for rights advocates and some democrats. He gained Trump’s trust while advising the president toward a number of confrontations that will be decided in the coming days and months. If confirmed, Pompeo would replace Rex Tillerson, who was removed from the position last month. 

At Thursday's hearing, Pompeo faces questions on a range of diplomatic priorities, including Russia, Syria, N. Korea and Iran.
