Graceland chapel, Ronaldo in hospital, Paul Manafort trial: 5 things you need to know Monday
ICE agent faces cold reality of months behind bars
Clifton Divers' job as an ICE agent was to help enforce immigration laws. Instead, prosecutors say, he helped immigrants avoid deportation by running a bribery scheme with a lawyer who got rich scamming clients, including an Albanian woman who once handed the attorney $20,000 cash for inside help. And for that, prosecutors say, he should spend 52 months in prison. Divers, 49, pleaded guilty to bribery and conspiracy in January. He will be sentenced Monday.
Elvis fans can say 'I do' at new Graceland chapel
"This profound love for Elvis brings people together," said Julie Guardado, whose wedding will be the first at the new Chapel in the Woods at Graceland, the mansion once owned by Elvis Pressley in Memphis, Tennessee. The new chapel was designed to seat 75 and feature windows to show off the woods surrounding Graceland. Guardado met Marc Caudel during Elvis Week 2015, and the couple's ceremony Monday will mark the 2,000th wedding, dedication or vow renewal to take place at Graceland.
Final witness expected against Manafort
Prosecutors planned last week to conclude their case against Paul Manafort, the first person to face a criminal trial as part of special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia inquiry. Then the judge put the trial on hold Friday, offering unusual instruction to jurors to not discuss the case until all evidence was in. The delay went unexplained by U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III, who reminded the panel that Manafort, President Donald Trump's former campaign chief, is presumed innocent. The delay pushed the government's final witnesses to Monday.
Ronaldo's goal: Get out of hospital
Brazil soccer great Ronaldo said on Sunday that he has been hospitalized in Ibiza since Friday because of flu. The 41-year-old Ronaldo, a three-time FIFA World Player of the Year, said on social media that "everything is under control now" and that he expects to return home on Monday. Ronaldo won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, the striker scoring eight goals at the tournament to take the Golden Boot. He retired from football in 2011.
Stone aide faces judge's ire
Andrew Miller, former aide to presidential pal Roger Stone, has been ordered to testify and provide documents subpoenaed by special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia inquiry. Miller worked during the 2016 presidential campaign for Stone, longtime associate of President Donald Trump. But Miller didn't appear for Mueller's grand jury, prompting a judge to hold him in contempt Friday, according to Miller's attorney. U.S. District Chief Judge Beryl Howell stayed the contempt ruling until Monday, meaning Miller can appeal the ruling that ordered his grand jury appearance.
