Two homemade pipe bombs detonated outside a South Carolina courthouse

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Police are investigating after two bombs detonated outside a South Carolina courthouse late Sunday.

In a post shared to the department's Facebook page and confirmed with Chief Travis Riggs, the department said two hazardous devices were intentionally placed near a wall on the exterior of the Pickens County Courthouse.

The devices appeared to be homemade pipe bombs, according to the post. They were placed near the facility's HVAC units, it said.

Police said the early stages of the investigation show the devices detonated around 11:15 p.m., causing damage to glass windows on the lower level of the building. No injuries were reported.

Court Street was closed to traffic while investigators collect evidence and process the scene, the post said.

Police said routine operations in the courthouse should not be disrupted.

The Anderson County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad is assisting in the investigation, along with the Pickens County Sheriff's Office and federal agents from ATF.

No arrests have been made.
