Prince Harry, Meghan will drop 'royal highness' titles

Queen Elizabeth announced details of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's future following their statement that they were stepping back as senior members of the royal family. As part of the deal, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will stop using their HRH titles (His Royal Highness, Her Royal Highness) as they are "no longer working members of the Royal Family," Buckingham Palace announced on Saturday. They will be known as Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Harry will remain a prince and sixth in line to the British throne. They will also repay the Sovereign Grant expenditure ($3.06 million) for the refurbishment of their UK home, Frogmore Cottage. In his first speech since making their announcement, Prince Harry said Sunday that he feels “great sadness” over the decision. On Monday, Prince Harry made a surprise appearance at the U.K.-Africa royal summit. 

Democrats call president 'danger' to national security, Trump lawyers call impeachment trial 'unconstitutional'

The Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump begins in earnest on Tuesday. Over the weekend, seven lawmakers, chosen by Nancy Pelosi to prosecute the case, filed a brief summarizing their arguments for the president's removal from office. The 111-page document called the president a "danger" to U.S. national security, and reiterated that there is no course but to remove Trump from office. The president's lawyers told Senate Republicans on Monday that they should simply dismiss the House Democratic impeachment case against their client, calling the charges unfair and political. The stage is set for Super Bowl LIV

The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will play in Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2 after dominating their conference games on Sunday. Unsurprisingly, the big stars shined for these teams in the most important games of the season. Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes dazzled with his arms — and his legs — to the tune of four touchdowns. Meanwhile, San Francisco dominated the Packers on the ground and Green Bay could not find a solution. Super Bowl tickets for Chiefs vs. 49ers are already selling for a record amount. Thousands of pro-gun protesters, many heavily armed, rally peacefully in Virginia

Thousands of gun owners and gun rights supporters gathered Monday at Virginia's Capitol for a "peaceful day to address our Legislature" that appeared to generate none of the violence feared by some state leaders. Many demonstrators, opposed to proposed gun restrictions, openly displayed military-style semiautomatic rifles. But despite warnings from Gov. Ralph Northam and law enforcement that out-of-state hate groups and militias may incite violence, the protest did not grow heated. Gene Lepley, spokesman for the rally day information center in Richmond, said no arrests had been made. Police estimated the size of the crowd at 22,000.

SAG Awards: 'Parasite' wins big 

The movie "Parasite" became the first foreign-language film to win the coveted best ensemble in a motion picture prize at Sunday's Screen Actors Guild Awards show in Los Angeles. The movie beat "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" and "The Irishman" and marked an important stop on the way to the Academy Awards since thespians make up the largest voting bloc in the Academy. If you missed the show, we have you covered: 

Women's March protesters hit the pavement across the country

Women's March activists turned out by the thousands across the country Saturday. The planned marches were much smaller than the inaugural 2017 Women's Marches, which drew millions as people took to the streets a day after the inauguration of President Donald Trump. The national Women's March rallied in Washington, D.C., while sister marches took place in Chicago, New York, Milwaukee, Los Angeles and Austin, Texas, among other cities. The Women's March organization has been beset by internal wrangling, divergent strategies and perhaps a bit of protest fatigue in some quarters, but organizers said they hoped "renewed energy" would help protesters "enter 2020 ready to finish what we started."

SpaceX rocket explodes after liftoff (as planned)

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Kennedy Space Center on Sunday, ultimately sacrificing itself to test a Crew Dragon capsule's life-saving abort capabilities. The flight ended with the Dragon crew capsule parachuting safely into the Atlantic, after separating and speeding away from the exploding rocket. The in-flight abort — and fireball — was the last major milestone SpaceX had to achieve before launching astronauts from U.S. soil to the International Space Station. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said it was a "picture-perfect" mission.
