The RNC commences against a backdrop of political violence
A historic moment of shocking political violence has put the country on edge heading into the Republican National Convention, which begins Monday in Milwaukee and has morphed from a routine political ritual into a landmark event for a deeply divided nation.
- A political system that already was strained to the breaking point must grapple with the fallout from a rifle shot that came perilously close to killing former President Donald Trump at a political rally in a Pennsylvania field on Saturday.
- Will Trump speak at the RNC? Trump is expected to address delegates on Thursday evening, the last day of the convention, when he is formally nominated by Republicans.
- Are people scared about safety? Attendees told the Paste BN Network they were grateful that Trump was not further injured and looked forward to hearing from the former president later in the week.

Misery business in Texas
Hundreds-of-thousands of Houston-area residents are still without any electricity in the sweltering heat, a week after Hurricane Beryl rolled through. Amid the outages, the National Weather Service indicated high temperatures on a “generally increasing trend” into next week, reaching the mid to upper 90s. Houston has long been known to be hurricane-prone, and experts say Beryl – while serious and destructive – wasn't anywhere near the kind of storm that the city should be prepared for. Read more

737 Max victims' families want Boeing to do more
When Boeing agreed to a plea deal with the Department of Justice earlier this month, it agreed to a criminal fine of $243.6 million and other measures to increase accountability on the airline manufacturer. The deal was the latest chapter of the criminal fraud case related to the 2018 and 2019 737 Max crashes that together killed 346 people. But in promising to appeal the agreement, some families of the victims in those crashes say the deal simply does not do enough to get Boeing back on the right course. Read more

But don't tune it out. AT&T's data breach last week exposed nearly all of its cellular customers' call and text message records. Mikel Oyarzabal goal wins thrilling Euro final; Argentina prevails over Colombia in Copa America
Sunday was a big night for the soccer (football) world. Spain won its record fourth European soccer championship, getting an 86th-minute goal from Mikel Oyarzabal to beat England 2-1 in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday in Berlin. Across the Atlantic in Miami, Florida, Argentina became the 2024 Copa America champions after a 1-0 win over Colombia in a final that was eventful to say the least.
