Bring on LA28

The closing ceremony served as the nightcap to an extraordinary Paris Olympic Games. Americans are struggling with credit card debt. Miley Cyrus is a Disney Legend.

The Olympics are over — but there's still a lot of news from Paris

The 2024 Paris Games officially closed Sunday night, treating viewers to a spectacular show that featured Billie Eilish, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Snoop Dogg bringing California cool to the Olympics' next home.

Bring on on LA28: After French musicians delivered compelling performances, several French officials delivered earnest goodbyes. Then the Olympic flag was officially handed over to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who wasted no time waving it for the world to see.

  • "We don't have an Eiffel Tower. We do have a Hollywood sign." As part of the flag handoff at the Games' closing ceremony movie star Tom Cruise abseiled off the roof of Stade de France and seemingly fled to Los Angeles, where he handed off the flag to Olympic mountain biker Kate Courtney.
  • There's still one unresolved medal: USA Gymnastics said it has obtained new video evidence supporting its request to reinstate Jordan Chiles' score of 13.766 and allow her to keep her bronze medal from the women's floor exercise final.
  • What was the final medal count at 2024 Olympics?  The U.S. tied China for the most gold medals (40) — with American women winning more medals than all of Australia and France.

At a time when credit card interest rates are super high, more Americans find themselves carrying credit card debt from month to month, a new survey suggests. Rather than avoid your statement, here are a few ways you can chip away at debt:

  • Cut back. Take from your discretionary budget to pay more than the monthly minimum on your credit card.
  • Set aside. Use any extra funds, such as a tax refund, work bonus or pay from a side gig, to pay toward your credit card debt.
  • Change cards. Get a 0% balance transfer card, so you can move your debt to a new card with no interest for a limited time, often 12 to 21 months.

Instead, the former president who hopes voters will send him back to the White House in November has settled into a familiar series of deeply personal attacks on his Democratic opponent, including inflammatory remarks about race. How race, police and mental health collided in Sonya Massey's death

Last month, a sheriff's deputy shot and killed Sonya Massey, 36, inside her small Illinois home after she called 911 to report a prowler. Massey's death has triggered a fresh wave of anger, frustration and exhaustion in her hometown and across the country as the United States continues to grapple with its long history of racist treatment of Black residents, systemic inequality, and lack of access to mental health care.
