Ernesto still makes deadly waves in US

Churning hundreds of miles from the continental U.S., Hurricane Ernesto has kept the nation's Atlantic coastline treacherous for several days as its expansive rip currents threaten to drag beachgoers out to sea โ€“ a hazard experts say is not that unusual.

Storm turns deadly: Officials blamed Ernesto's rip currents for the deaths of at least three people in the Carolinas over the weekend. Dozens of others were rescued from rip currents while at least one home collapsed and was swallowed up by the large waves.

What they're saying: "It can be a beautiful, sunny day โ€“ and sometimes the waves aren't even that bad โ€“ and rip currents can be strong enough to pull people out to sea," AccuWeather hurricane expert Alex DaSilva said. ๐ŸŒ€ Here's everything we know.

๐ŸŽฅ Watch: Strong currents from Ernesto send house floating into the ocean.

Super blue moon coming soon

Barring pesky clouds, skywatchers will have a spectacular view of a super blue moon when it rises in the evening sky tonight.

Tricky timing: The moon reaches peak fullness at 2:26 p.m. EDT Monday, when it will be below the horizon in the United States. However, the moon will still look plenty full when it rises in the eastern sky Monday evening, and NASA says it will actually appear full for three days, through early Wednesday morning.

Super and blue? The โ€œsuperโ€ part of its title refers to the moonโ€™s orbit, which brings it slightly closer to Earth this month, upping its size and brightness. The โ€œblueโ€ part means that this is the third of four full moons this season, an unusual occurrence. ๐ŸŒ More lunar learnings.
