Two men arrested in connection with San Bernardino County train burglary

An Apple Valley man and an Arizona man are accused of stealing $18,000 worth of merchandise in an overnight train burglary in San Bernardino County, officials said.

The break-in took place about 12:15 a.m. Friday on a set of train tracks near National Trails Highway and Amboy Road in Amboy, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies were notified by BNSF Railway Police that a train was being burglarized by several suspects in "a crime frequently organized and committed by criminal groups," the sheriff's department said in a written statement.

As deputies were on their way to the remote location to investigate, they spotted a box truck driving in the area of Amboy Road and Bristol Avenue, in an unincorporated area of the Morongo Basin, officials said.

After pulling the truck over, roughly $18,000 worth of goods that had allegedly just been stolen from the train were found inside.

Oscar Sosa, 28, of Apple Valley and Jose Villalobos-Infante, 45, of Phoenix, were arrested on suspicion of burglary, according to sheriff's officials and county booking records.

Bail was set at $100,000 each pending initial court appearances, scheduled Tuesday in San Bernardino County Superior Court.
