The claim: A serial killer is targeting women in Camden, New Jersey
A Nov. 30 Facebook post (direct link, archive link) warns women to be on the lookout for a serial killer.
“Everybody be safe out there I hear it’s a serial killer out here in Camden,” reads the post. “Two females was found dead with there necks cut and eyes out in Camden so always check y’all surroundings always make sure you not being followed (sic).”
It was shared more than 600 times in five days.

County spokespeople told Paste BN the claim is false. Officials were investigating the death of one woman whose body was found in November, but there was no evidence her body was mutilated or that it was the work of a serial killer.

Neither the Camden County Police Department nor the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office had warned the public of a serial killer in the area of Camden, New Jersey, on their respective social media pages. County officials told Paste BN the claim is false.
“There is not a serial killer in Camden,” said Camden County spokesperson Dan Keashen.
A woman’s body was found in the city on Nov. 15, but the prosecutor's statement on the incident made no mention of her neck or eyes being cut, as the post claims.
“To date, there have not been any incidents or reports to support or indicate that any of the recent homicides that occurred in Camden were related to a serial killer,” said a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office who declined to be named.
