Determined amputee celebrates life, goes wakesurfing

57-year-old Steve Fischel says he is more adventurous these days, ever since his leg was amputated last October due to an infection.
"A doctor told me a year before the amputation that I should do it and if I know what I had known now, I wouldn't have waited a year," Fischel said. "People think this is the end, you know? Things are over. And when it's all said and done, it's so much better. I have no pain. I can do everything I used to do."
The amputee joined 19 others in a free water sports event at the lake hosted by the Hanger Clinic, which specializes in prosthetic and orthotic solutions.
Amputees had the chance to wake surf, kayak and paddle board.

"I've never been out here before, wake surfing. Wow," Fischel said. "I'm now doing things I never did before, and I want to do more and more and keep going."
