Most heartwarming stories of 2015: Where are they now?

Over the past year, we have seen incredible acts of kindness, special relationships and triumphs over adversity that have made our hearts sing. As we say goodbye to 2015, Humankind checked in with some of our favorite stories from the year to see how everyone is doing.

Since we last saw the Lunch Lady making and delivering bagged lunches to the kids in her community, she’s been very busy. Phyllis was invited onto the daytime talk show, The Real, where she was given $10,000 for her lunch program! In addition, the community that receives the most help from Phyllis got together and raised $3,000.

Since we last visited Allen Law, he hasn't slowed down a bit. He still sleeps only a handful of hours a night and continues to dole out sandwiches and bus tokens to the homeless. By the end of 2015, Allen says he will have given out more than one million sandwiches, 7,000 pairs of socks, and almost $45,000 in bus tokens this year. And those freezers in his apartment? He still has them but he isn't allowed to bring in anymore. Now, he's renting storage space for more freezers.

We are happy to report that Lucy's adoption process is almost complete, but this story has a second happy ending! The Shook family has decided to also adopt Lucy's best friend, a six-year-old blind boy from the same Chinese orphanage who will be named Henry.

Colin Consavage just celebrated one of the best Christmases of his young life. This year, he got a new hand! The Penn State student group, Digi Digits, who worked on Colin's new prosthetic, delivered it to him over the holiday break. The individual pieces of the hand are attached to a fingerless bicycle glove, glow-in-the-dark, and pure awesome!

Our favorite couple, Randy and Melissa, decided to pool their savings to buy a karaoke machine as their Christmas gift to each other. The newlyweds keep it in their bedroom and have already started using it. Melissa sings country. Randy prefers gospel. And they both like Christmas songs.

Hugs Cafe has been open for two months and already has many success stories! Jerry for example, has moved from busing tables to excelling at serving tables. He immediately caught on and is very happy. Tamika, who was very shy and rarely smiled, is now working in the kitchen. She is taking control, making cookies without assistance and is SMILING.
