Danielle VanScoy teaches kindergarten at Ridgewood Park Elementary School in Orlando. It’s a public, Title I school, meaning a high percentage of the students are from low-income families.

VanScoy is a member of the Christ Church of Orlando, where she recently requested items through the church’s Angel Tree program. Angel Tree Such programs are common at many churches, offering charitable items and services to those in need.

VanScoy had a simple request: goodie bags for her sixteen 16 kindergarten students. As the school year hit the halfway mark, many of their supplies had deteriorated dwindled, and students were in need of crayons, pencils, and erasers.

The church decided that they not only would not only provide goodie bags, but they also would also generate secure the funds needed necessary to donate a bicycles for each student in the class. In the end, they were able to provide bikes, helmets, bike locks, and goodie bags filled with fun items like such as necklaces and stickers in addition to the needed pencils, crayons and erasers.

“As you can see from their reaction, the kids had no idea that there was a surprise inside the classroom,” says Katherine Marsh, director of Media Relations for OC Public Schools.
