A great white shark spotted in Massachusetts on Monday caused a brief beach closure, state police said. There were no injuries reported during the incident.

Police confirmed the shark was 75-100 yards off the coast of Duxbury and the beach was shut down for about an hour as a precautionary measure.

The shark was first seen by a state police helicopter on the ocean side of Duxbury beach at about 2 p.m. local time, the Boston Globe reports. Swimmers were then cleared from the water.

Duxbury Fire Chief Kevin Nord told the Globe the shark was "too close for comfort" for the 1,000 or so beach-goers. He added that the sighting was "the biggest we've seen" this year.

"As more boats approached the area the shark was spotted in, the shark continued swimming southeast into deeper water," state police said on Facebook.
