Teen's abduction a hoax, Calif. sheriff's office says

An abduction reported Monday morning in San Andreas in Calaveras County, Calif., was a hoax, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office said.

An Amber Alert was issued by the California Highway Patrol for a 14-year-old boy who was reportedly forced into a white van by two individuals at a San Andreas convenience store. The family of the alleged victim also made a missing persons report, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office said.

Early Monday evening, the sheriff's office reported the teen had been found by police in Stockton and was being questioned.

After an investigation, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office stated later on Monday night that the abduction was a hoax and one juvenile has been placed into custody with juvenile probation.

"During the investigation which included an extensive deployment of resources, Sheriff Detectives obtained evidence that the abduction claim had been fabricated," the sheriff's office stated in a news release.

Because he is a minor, the teen's name is not being reported.
