You can't help but smile when you meet this 'elf'

With a pink Santa hat perched on her head, Dryden Shirks pushes a red wagon full of toys into the Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. From just a glance, it's obvious that this six-year-old is on a mission.
Along with help from her brothers and sisters, this "elf" has collected more than 700 toys to donate to sick kids who are stuck in the hospital this Christmas.
Why is such a young child going to such extraordinary lengths, you might ask? It's because she knows what it feels like to be in the hospital during the holidays.
"I had cancer and I got lots of toys. I want to make other kids happy with toys, too," Shirks explains. After battling leukemia for two-and-a-half years, this smiling Santa's helper has now been cancer-free for two years. She teamed up with local Tacoma businesses to provide collection bins for the toys.

"They're going to be so happy," says Shirks.
