#SupernovaSunday: Pats-Seahawks rivalry is out of this world, literally

We're sure you're enjoying Super Bowl Sunday -- but are you having a #SupernovaSunday?

Take a break from the game and oh-so-entertaining commercials and head over to Twitter, where NASA is having a bit of football-themed rivalry fun.

@NASA has been tweeting stunning photos of supernovas from the hashtag #SupernovaSunday all day, getting lovers of space and football alike to retweet the nebula that has the colors of the team they support this Super Bowl -- red and blue for the Patriots, or blue and green for the Seahawks.

So far, Seahawks are winning.

Like it does during many high-impact events, NASA is taking the opportunity to spread knowledge about supernovas, linking to its fact sheet about the space explosions. According to NASA, "a supernova is the explosion of a star. It is the largest explosion that takes place in space." (Find out more about white dwarfs, X-rays and gamma rays on the fact sheet, too. Believe us -- it's cool!)

And bonus, they're really, really pretty.

(We're also really loving this Dorito-NASA exchange. What do you think: Is the little scientist who made pigs fly ready to take his skills to the big time?)
