Trekkies: 'Live long and prosper' with new Spock emoji

Attention, Trekkies: telling your friends to "live long and prosper" just got easier.

An emoji inspired by Spock's signature hand gesture is on its way to Apple's next OS X and iOS operating systems, Apple confirmed to Quartz, giving emoji enthusiasts everywhere a new alternative to the prayer hands.

The Vulcan salute emoji was approved as a new Unicode symbol last year (along with a host of new racially-diverse characters) but it doesn't yet appear on Apple's emoji keyboard. No word on whether it'll be added to other mobile platforms.

They need to hurry up, because this hand signal is not fun to make.

Leonard Nimoy passed away earlier this year, but we're glad that his legacy as Spock will live on in emoji form.
