Police are investigating reports of a "lion-like cat" that's been spotted roaming the streets of Milwaukee, Wis.

Authorities received calls on Monday night and early Tuesday morning, but were unable to find the animal, WKOW-TV reported.

So far, the only confirmed sighting of the animal is a cell phone video that a Milwaukee couple took from their deck.

"I was afraid to move," Annie Nolan told WKOW-TV. "I was sitting there and I couldn't move. I thought, 'What am I looking at?'"

In the video, what appears to be a lion walks through a neighborhood in broad daylight.

While police haven't been able to identify the animal, Police Chief Edward Flynn said it's not impossible that a wild cat may have wandered through the city, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

The cougar, also known as a mountain lion, is native to Wisconsin and sightings aren't unheard of. Last October, two cougars were spotted in Northern Wisconsin, according to the Department of Natural Resources.

Since the first sighting, the lion has become somewhat of a local celebrity on Twitter, with people posting mock sightings with the hashtag #MKElion.

On Tuesday, the Milwaukee County Zoo made sure the public knew they weren't to blame for the potential animal sighting. The Zoo tweeted, "We're not sure what's running around the city, but all of our lions are safe and sound!"

Even the city's professional basketball team is on the lookout for the "#MKElion."

Flynn said people should report sightings to the police, the Journal Sentinel reported.
