Three injured after ceiling collapse at Minnesota night club

MINNEAPOLIS - Three people were injured after a ceiling collapsed at a historic music venue in Minneapolis on Wednesday night, according to local officials.

Part of the ceiling collapsed at the First Avenue music club around 10 p.m., according to the Minneapolis Fire Department.

Three people were treated at the Hennepin County Medical Center following the collapse, Christine Hill, a spokeswoman for the medical center, told Paste BN Network.

"As of last night we did see three patients as a result of that incident at First Avenue," Hill said.

Witnesses said they saw smoke and sprinklers in the back go off before part of roof came down in back of venue.

Nathan Kranz, First Avenue's general manager, said about 750 people were inside when two sections of the ceiling fell in. The collapse also pulled down the building's sprinkler pipe.

The fire department tweeted that the building was evacuated, inspected and turned over to management at 11:00 p.m.

The music venue will remain closed on Thursday for inspections. Kranz said it's not immediately clear how soon First Avenue might be able to reopen.
