Man finds live cannonball in N.J. yard

A New Jersey man was digging in his back yard on Saturday when he found a live cannonball.
The Atlantic City bomb squad was dispatched to the Lower Township, N.J., home to investigate, according to Lieutenant William Priole, a spokesman for the Lower Township Police Department.
"Cannon balls are not something we typically find, usually an old mortar shelf we find off the beach and fishing boats occasionally dredge something in," Priole told Paste BN Network.
The brass-capped cannon ball was "approximately 5 inches in circumference," and stamped "4k, 85mm," according to a statement from Lower Township Police Department.
Bomb squad officials x-rayed the cannon ball and determined it was "fully functional," according to Priole.
He said the bomb was taken to a remote area and detonated. While it's not uncommon to find artillery shells in the area, residents should never touch or move artillery shells, according to police.
