Pope Francis said Tuesday that priests can forgive the "sin of abortion" for women who are contrite about it.

Nine out of 10 Catholics believe in the concept of sin, or the idea of an immoral act against God, according to a study released Wednesday by the Pew Research Center.

The study found that 57% of U.S. Catholics believe abortion to be a sin compared with 48% of the general public that shared the same view. The survey measured what percentage of U.S. Catholics considered other acts sinful:
