Police: Woman bitten by tiger at zoo after trespassing

A woman was bitten by a tiger after she trespassed into a zoo and attempted to pet the animal, Omaha Police Department said.

Jacqueline Elde "made unauthorized entry" into the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Neb., on early Sunday and suffered "severe trauma to her hand" after reaching into the tiger's cage, the police department said in a statement posted to Facebook.

Police reported that she was "aggressive toward staff" and "showed signs of intoxication of alcohol and/or drugs."

Elde was taken to a hospital by a friend for treatment. She was cited for criminal trespass and the incident is under investigation, according to police.
