Trump, Kasich, Bush spar over immigration

MILWAUKEE — Immigration reform brought out a sharp exchange at the Republican debate between New York businessman Donald Trump, former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

Trump repeated his stance that illegal immigrants should be shipped back to their country of origin and a border wall should be built.

Kasich said that was a ludicrous position. "If they're law abiding, they pay a penalty and they can stay … Think about the families."

Trump retorted, "I've built companies that are worth billions and billions. I don't need to hear from this guy … You should let Jeb speak."

Trump again brought up the inaccurate claim he used against Kasich in last month's debate: that Ohio enjoys a stronger economy because of fracking. Kasich refuted the charge.

"Little false little things, sir, they really don't work when it comes to the truth," Kasich said.

Trump interrupted to say he was worth billions of dollars. "I don't have to hear from this man, believe me."

And the Milwaukee crowd booed.

Bush, meanwhile, sarcastically thanked Trump for allowing him to speak. "Sending 11 million people back is not possible and it's not embracing American values. Even having this conversation sends a powerful signal. They're doing high fives in the Clinton campaign over this."
