Suspect in custody after Md. officer shot in face

ABERDEEN, Md. — The man accused of shooting a Maryland police officer in the face is now in custody, police said.

The shooting happened around 3 a.m. Friday., the Aberdeen Police Department said.

Police said an officer responding to suspicious activity heard a "pop" and was hit by pellets, not a bullet, possibly from a shotgun.

The officer was transported to the hospital and his condition is stable.

Police spokesman Sgt. C. William Reiber said a suspect fired a long gun at the officer, who will undergo surgery for a "projectile in his eye." Police haven't identified the officer.

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Tyler Scott Testerman, was found and taken into custody.

All Aberdeen schools in the area were delayed as police searched for Testerman.

The officer is a 10-year-veteran of the Aberdeen Police Department.
