Calif. twins born minutes apart, but in different years
SAN DIEGO — A San Diego woman gave birth to the last baby of 2015 and the first baby of 2016 at San Diego Kaiser Permanente Zion Medical Center.
Maribel Valencia, 22, and her husband, Luis, welcomed Jaelyn at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2015. Her brother, Luis, arrived 3 minutes later at 12:02 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2016.
“I was not really expecting two, so it's a big blessing to have two of them, boy and a girl for New Year's,” Luis told KGTV.
Jaelyn weighed 4 pounds, 15 ounces. Luis tipped the scales at 5 pounds, 9 ounces. The twins have a 3-year-old sister, Isabella.
According to the hospital, Maribel Salgado works at the San Diego International Airport as a cashier and her husband is a diesel mechanic for the United States Navy.
