A 'firefall' in Yosemite is mesmerizing everyone
An illusion that looks like lava gushing down a rock is captivating visitors at Yosemite National Park. In reality, this phenomenon occurs because of the certain angle of the sun as it hits a cliff.
It may look like lava gushing from Horsetail Fall at Yosemite National Park. But that's just an illusion.
In reality, this phenomenon, known as "firefall," happens when the sun's angle "sets the waterfall ablaze with reds and oranges, like a fire was falling down the cliffs on the shoulder of El Capitan," according to Yosemite National Park.
The phenomenon is usually the most engaging during mid-to-late February.
