Calif. car salesman killed during test drive; driver arrested
A California car salesman was killed during a test drive on Tuesday when the man driving the car slammed into a tree, according to police.
The man who was driving the car, Alex Demetro, 28, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence of drugs, the Ontario Police Department told KTLA-TV.
Police said Demetro and a 43-year-old CarMax employee were test driving a red corvette a couple of blocks from the car dealership in Ontario, Calif., when Demetro crashed.
KTLA-TV reported that witnesses said Demetro was driving at least 70 mph.
The victim was transported to San Antonio Regional Hospital, where he died, KTLA-TV reported.
Demetro is being held on $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, according to court documents, the Los Angeles Times reported.
