Family, friends mourn slain Texas teen, father
HOUSTON – The sounds of heartbreak poured from a home near Katy, Texas, this weekend as family and friends of 14-year-old Adriana Coronado Cavazos, who was found dead on Wednesday, gathered to mourn, pray and sing for her.
The girl’s mother, Adriana Cavazos, spoke out in Spanish on Saturday afternoon through her wailing sobs.
"I lost my two loves, the two people I loved most in the world. My little girl and my man. They are gone and they left me alone," Cavazos said.
Adriana Coronado, whose decomposing, pajama-clad body was found in a field in northwest Houston, was shot multiple times and her death has been ruled a homicide, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences said. She was last seen a week ago and her body was identified on Friday, the Associated Press reported.
Investigators believe Adriana might have been with her father, Caesar Vladimir Coronado, when he was killed. He was found fatally shot, his body burned, last Sunday about 80 miles north of Houston. His burned pickup was found near Conroe, 45 miles south of where his body was discovered, the Associated Press reported.
According to the AP, The Walker County's Sheriff's Office released surveillance video Thursday of a person of interest leaving the father's truck last Sunday night. The truck is driven off screen and a few seconds later, a burst of light can be seen coming from the direction of the truck. Authorities believe the burst of light occurred when the truck was set on fire. The man can be seen running away from the direction of the truck and later seen running down an alley, the AP reported.
Investigators have not released information on a possible motive, but they hope someone recognizes the man in the video.
Cavazos says her husband was a carpenter and had no enemies she knows of. Adriana was a freshman at Mayde Creek High School in Katy.
"I hope the police do their job and catch those evil people. They took away what I loved most in this world," Cavazos said.
