Watch: Massive blast as train collides with propane truck
CALLAWAY, Minn. - A fireball lit up the night sky over a small town in northwestern Minnesota, hours after a freight train derailed after colliding with a propane truck.
Authorities ordered Callaway, a town of nearly 250 people, to evacuate after a Canadian Pacific train collided with a semi-truck which was hauling propane on Thursday.
Canadian Pacific spokesman Andy Cummings said that a northbound train hit a commercial vehicle near Callaway around 12:45 p.m. The impact caused seven empty train cars and one locomotive to derail. Authorities let the propane truck burn itself out.
Two members of the train’s crew suffered non-life threatening injuries and are being treated at Essentia Hospital in Detroit Lakes.
