Deputies: Dog's mouth, head duct-taped

DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. -- Darlington County deputies are looking for the owner of a dog that was found Sunday with duct tape wrapped around its muzzle and head.

Officers received a call on Monday that a black dog was walking around with duct tape wrapped around its head and mouth, the Darlington County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post.

Deputies were able to catch the animal and safely remove the tape.  Authorities said the animal was taken to the Darlington County Animal Shelter for care and treatment.

The incident caused outrage on social media, with many slamming the person who taped the dog's mouth shut. Others pointed out that almost a year ago, another dog was found with its muzzle taped shut in Charleston, S.C.

In that case, the tape was wrapped so tightly around the dog's muzzle, she had to have extensive surgery.

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or the Darlington County Sheriff's Office at 843-398-4501.
