Coast Guard suspends search for woman who fell off cruise ship

GALVESTON, Texas — The Coast Guard suspended its search Sunday night for a missing cruise ship passenger, according to a Coast Guard statement.

They had been searching for Samantha Broberg, 33, who was reported missing from the Carnival Liberty around noon Friday, about 200 miles southeast of Galveston.

The ship returned to Galveston on Monday morning.

A video showed Broberg falling overboard from the 10th deck around 2 a.m., which was when the Coast Guard was contacted.

Rescue crews from Corpus Christi and Mobile, Ala., have used planes to search a combined area of more than 4,300 square miles but still have not found her.

According to the Coast Guard statement, they searched for 20 hours.

Carnival officials say their Care Team is providing support to Broberg’s family and those she was travelling with.

The ship left Galveston on Thursday on a four-day cruise to Mexico.
