Florida's third case of Zika in Melbourne County
MELBOURNE, Fla. — A third case of the Zika virus has been reported in Brevard County, according to the Florida Department of Health.
Transmission of the virus occurred while the person was outside of Florida, the department said.
Symptoms of the virus are generally mild and include rashes, fever and joint pain. Researchers at the Center for Disease Control have determined that the virus causes microcephaly and other birth defects.
Symptoms generally last seven to 10 days.
Cases were also reported in Broward and Pinellas counties on Wednesday. A pregnant woman was also reported to have contracted the virus.
There has yet to be a locally acquired case of the virus in the state.
