Watch: Black bear takes over Calif. pool

How about a swim? A black bear decided to beat the heat by taking a dip in a Los Angeles pool on Wednesday morning.

Local news outlets captured video of the bear from a helicopter, as it took a morning swim and later retreated to a nearby tree.

Andrew Hughan, a spokesman for the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, told the Los Angeles Times, that the bear was a juvenile and not aggressive.

“The bear is terrified,” Hughan said. “It’s just terrified of the noises, the police cars, the helicopters.”

California Department of Fish and Wildlife tweeted updates throughout the day and into the evening on Wednesday.

Wildlife officials shared photos of the bear "napping" in a tree, and noted that it was likely going to be a long night.

When asked if the bear had come down, wildlife officials simply responded: "Still chillin.”

According to KTLA, the bear appeared to scamper into the woods around 6:30 p.m.

Spring is a common time for bear sightings because juvenile bears are forced to leave their mothers, who have new bear cubs, wildlife officials said on Twitter.
