7 injuries reported in flash fire at Texas oil facility


BEAUMONT, Texas — A flash fire Friday night at a Sunoco Logistics oil terminal in Texas injured at least seven people, authorities say.

According to Marcus McLellan of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, the workers were injured while doing some welding at the terminal in Nederland, southeast of Beaumont.

Three of the injured were taken by helicopter to area hospitals with burns, and four were transported by ambulance, McLellan said.

Sunoco Logisitcs is in the business of transporting and storing crude oil, natural gas liquids and refined products according to their website.

The Nederland terminal handles crude oil and related products, according to the site.

The terminal is connected to several pipelines as well as the strategic petroleum reserve and has marine crude transfer facilities.
