2-month-old girl shot along Wisconsin highway

MILWAUKEE — Authorities are investigating the shooting of a 2-month-old girl in an incident Sunday on a Milwaukee County highway.

There are few details about the incident that occurred about 5 p.m. CDT on Interstate 43 near the Glendale, Wis., city limits.

The baby was taken to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, where her condition was not known. North Shore Fire Department officials said the girl's injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, according to the agency's Facebook page.

Paramedics treated the infant in a vehicle in a parking lot at Interstate 43 and Hampton Avenue. Northbound lanes of I-43 were closed during the investigation, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation reported. The lanes were closed for about three hours.

Glendale police referred calls for more information to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department, which did not immediately respond.

It's not yet known what led to the shooting.
