Instead of a trip to jail, officer drives man 100 miles to be with his family
An Ohio police officer went above the call of duty earlier this week when instead of giving a speeding driver a ticket, he drove the man 100 miles to be with his grieving family.
Sgt. David Robison of the Ohio State Patrol was working early Sunday when he spotted a car speeding down the road. He pulled the car over and found Mark Ross, who was desperately trying to get to Detroit after learning that his 15-year-old sister was killed in a car accident, Fox News reported.
Ross said in a Sept. 25 Facebook post, that he had a petty warrant out for his arrest and was with a friend who had a suspended driver's license, so he had no doubt that he would be taken to jail.
"I explained to the officer that my sister had died and that I needed to get to my mother asap," he said in the Facebook post. "I broke down crying, and he saw the sincerity in my cry."
Ross said he was shocked when instead of taking him to jail, the officer showed him compassion.
"He reaches over and began praying [for] me and my family," Ross said.
Ross said the vehicle was towed, but Robison offered to drive him the rest of the way to Detroit.
"Everybody knows how much I dislike cops, but I am truly grateful for this guy [Robison,]" Ross said. "He gave me hope."
