Due Date podcast: Preparing for a new identity as a postmodern cow
When I first realized I was pregnant, I knew my life would change, but I wasn’t exactly sure how.
I’m still not sure, which is why I’ve been talking to friends and family about becoming a mom.
News of a baby on the way is exciting, but also stressful.
Parents I’ve talked with say attending childcare classes helped tame anxiety. Somehow putting a diaper on a plastic baby gives moms to be a little assurance they can handle what’s to come. But, the unknowns are scary, especially because having a child isn’t just about caring for a newborn.
It’s also about assuming a new role – becoming a parent. That means less alone time, more responsibility and lots of breast feeding for moms who choose to do so. My boss described feeling like a postmodern cow while she pumped at work.
This episode focuses on coming to terms with a new identity.
