The One World Trade Center and other iconic buildings illuminated with green light Thursday in response to President Donald Trump's decision to exit the Paris climate agreement.

The U.S. is the second-leading emitter of greenhouse gas emissions behind China. The Paris climate agreement requires every country to establish targets to reduce the greenhouse gasses that cause global warming. Only two countries didn't sign: Nicaragua and Syria

In New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo tweeted a photo of the One World Trade Center and the Kosciuszko Bridge illuminated in green light.

"World: The Empire State stands with you. New York shines green for our planet, our health and our children's future. #Paris Agreement," Cuomo said in the tweet.

Several other cities followed suit with buildings illuminated in green light.
