2 dead after car strikes group of people, building in S.D.

Two people died and another six were injured after a car hit a group of people and ran into a building in Alcester, S.D., on Monday, police say.

The crash appeared to be unintentional, Tony Mangan with the South Dakota Highway Patrol said.

Alcester Police Chief Chris Doty said the vehicle struck the Alcester Care and Rehab Center at 101 Church St. just before 9:30 a.m.

Multiple helicopters and at least four ambulances responded to the scene.

Doty could not say how fast the vehicle was driving at the time of impact or the condition of the driver.

South Dakota Highway Patrol will continue the investigation.
