FORRESTON, Texas — About 40,000 pounds of avocados spilled across Interstate 35E here Thursday when the tractor-trailor hauling them caught fire.
No one was injured in the incident that snarled northbound traffic for nearly three hours at around noon. The section of interstate about 35 miles south of Dallas reopened just before 2:30 p.m. CT.
None of the avocados could be saved.
The cause of the accident, which resulted in the 18-wheeler going up in flames, has not been determined. Texas Department of Public Safety officials at the scene indicted it likely was a mechanical issue.
