Giant python makes a home at Florida golf resort
- Florida Fish and Wildlife officials have confirmed the snake is a Burmese python
- A woman who saw the python said it was likely 12 to 13 feet long
- The snake was last spotted near the 12th tee at the Vinoy Golf Club
A massive snake has made its home in the mangroves of a Florida luxury golf resort.
Nancy Davis and her 16-year-old son, Brad, spotted the python over Memorial Day weekend at Vinoy Golf Club.
"What we saw was like, eight feet out of the water and it continues on in," Davis said. "I can only imagine it was 12 or 13 feet at least."
Florida Fish and Wildlife officials have confirmed the snake is a Burmese python.
Randy Mosley, director of golf at the resort, said when he inquired about how dangerous the snake was, he was told "it could take down a small teenager."
Mosley said the snake was last spotted near the 12th tee.
Since the sighting, many residents have grown uneasy.
"Well, I'm shocked. We never have anything like that here," said Marion Whalen, who is afraid to let her dog outside. "It could probably swallow him."
