Exclusive: Intelligence veterans vindicated after NSA leak
For years, intelligence veterans Thomas Drake, William Binney and J. Kirk Wiebe have told anyone who would listen that the NSA collects huge swaths of communications data from U.S. citizens. Now, in their first joint interview, they tell Paste BN that the documents leaked by Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old NSA contractor who worked as a systems administrator, prove their claims of sweeping government surveillance of millions of Americans not suspected of any wrongdoing. And they say those revelations only hint at the programs' reach.
Indiana woman sentenced to death at 16 to leave prison
Paula Cooper was 16 when she was sentenced to death in 1986 for killing an elderly Bible study teacher. That made the Gary, Ind., teen the youngest person ever in the state to face the death penalty. A legal challenge and international campaign to overturn her death sentence, which included an appeal from Pope John Paul II, saved Cooper's life. Today, Cooper will walk out of the Rockville Correctional Facility.
G8 Summit
Police are expected to outnumber protesters today at the G-8 summit in Northern Ireland, where leaders will seek to narrow their differences on Syria's civil war, promoting freer trade between Europe and North America, and combating global tax evasion. President Obama has been speaking in Belfast this morning.
