Step inside wildfires with two reporters
DENVER -- As California suffers through a wildfire season that's charred tens of thousands of acres and destroyed hundreds of homes and other buildings, join Paste BN reporter Trevor Hughes and Detroit Free Press reporter Robert Allen for a chat about covering wildfires.
Hughes and Allen have covered dozens of wildfires between them, and they discuss the sights, sounds and smell of the terrible beauty that is wildfire. From personal stories about the danger firefighters face "on the line," to the clothing they wear and the primal feel of watching fire destroy a forest, Hughes and Allen help put you inside the fire.
Hughes recently returned from covering the King Fire east of Sacramento, which is now 82,000 acres and 17 percent contained. That fire is blamed for damaging or destroying at least 22 structures in mountainous terrain.
