Holly Bobo suspect indicted on 2 counts of rape

JACKSON, Tenn. — The brother of a man suspected of murder in the case of missing nursing student Holly Bobo was indicted Tuesday on two counts of rape in the case.

John Dylan Adams, 26, of Holladay, Tenn., was arrested Sept. 17 on an evidence-tampering charge, accused of disposing of items that he knew would be of value in the case, according to special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. They say he later told investigators that he had raped Bobo at his family's home in rural Decatur County.

Hunters looking for ginseng earlier in September found the partial remains of the blonde 20-year-old, missing since April 13, 2011, in a wooded area of the county about 20 miles from her family's home.

Bobo, who was living with her parents and brother in Darden, Tenn., had awakened early to study for a nursing exam at the University of Tennessee's Parsons campus but apparently was abducted after her mother left for work but before she started to drive to class. Her brother was asleep at the time, but the family's dogs awakened him and he saw a man outside with his sister.

He has said he didn't stop them because he thought the man was his sister's boyfriend.

Adams is the brother of Zachary Rye Adams, who faces murder and aggravated kidnapping charges in connection with Bobo's death. A second man, Jason Wayne Autry, also faces first-degree murder and especially aggravated kidnapping charges.

The most recent charges against Dylan Adams, who is known by his middle name, bring to light pieces of the state's case against the men, placing Bobo in the Adams' residence the morning she disappeared, according to the agency. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation first said that Dylan Adams disposed of evidence at the Adams home that morning.

A special Decatur County grand jury indicted Adams on two counts of rape, according to 24th District Attorney General Matt Stowe. Adams has been jailed since his arrest in Madison County and is now in Robertson County Jail, being held without bond.

"We are grateful to the TBI and the grand jury for helping us take one more modest step on the long road to justice for Holly," Stowe said.

Zach Adams, 30, also was charged earlier this year with trying to coerce his brother not to talk about the Bobo case.

Dylan Adams, described as a drug addict in an earlier federal indictment, is developmentally disabled with an IQ in the low 70s, family members said.

Dylan Adams is "a grown man with the IQ of a 10-year-old," said Moss Miller, a first cousin of Zach and Dylan Adams' mother. "We are under the impression in his mental state he could be coerced to say anything."

Two other men, brothers Mark Pearcy and Jeffrey Kurt Pearcy, were arrested May 29 and charged with tampering with evidence and accessory after the fact in the case.
