SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Three people were found dead and one injured Saturday in a Springfield motel, police said.

Springfield police Lt. Culley Wilson said officers were summoned to the scene at 7:45 a.m. after reports that a male lying on the floor was non-responsive.

Officers discovered four individuals in a room toward the back of an Economy Inn.

Three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The fourth was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Wilson say all injuries appeared to be inflicted by a handgun. There are witnesses who have been helping the police.

No information about the victims have been provided. The police are still trying to identify who they are and where they lived prior to being at the motel.

Crime scene tape his surrounding surrounded the entire north side of the two-story motel. Wilson said the three victims in a relatively small room created a chaotic crime scene. Officers have not yet been able to search the room for weapons or other evidence.

He would not speculate on a potential motive for the homicides.
