3 workers killed in fire at Dallas high-rise

DALLAS -- Three workers were found dead after a fire Thursday at the Thanksgiving Tower in downtown Dallas, authorities said.
The fire broke out in the garage of the 50-story glass tower just before 11 a.m., forcing about 2,800 people to evacuate. The three workers who died were subcontractors working on the air conditioning system in the basement garage, Dallas Fire Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.
Evans says the preliminary belief is that the fire was electrical in nature because of the thick smoke it gave off, but the cause and ignition point remain undetermined.
Several people were treated on the street for unknown injuries, officials said, and two people were taken to a local hospital due to smoke inhalation.
Around 2:30 p.m., the Dallas Office of Emergency Management said employees were allowed back inside the building to retrieve their belongings and vehicles.
