Mother charged after 2 children killed in Ga. fire
DECATUR, Ga. — A Georgia woman was charged with felony murder after two of her children were killed and three others were injured in a house fire here, authorities say.
DeKalb County Fire-Rescue crews responding to the fire late Friday in Decatur, just outside of Atlanta, found two children — a 9-year-old and a 4-year-old — outside the home and three others trapped inside.
Officials said the three children were pulled out of the house. Two of them, ages 3 and 4, were pronounced dead. A third, a 10-year-old boy, is on life support at Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston, officials said. The other two children were listed in stable condition.
It's not known why five children were home alone, or how the blaze began, officials said.
The children's mother, 28-year-old Rockell Coleman, was charged with two counts of felony murder and five counts of cruelty to children, police say.
