(NEWSER) – A sweet use for a new technology and a generous holiday helper are among the week's uplifting stories:
- Dog can finally run, thanks to 3D-printed legs: Derby is a husky mix born last year with deformed front paws. Lucky for him, he got a foster mom who happens to work at a company that specializes in 3D printing, and that union has resulted in a YouTube smash.
- Mystery donor handing out $100 bills: A nice tradition is unfolding in Hyannis, Mass.: An anonymous man has been visiting fast-food shops and handing over $100 to each employee. No word on his identity, but he seems to like coffee.
- Pope hands out sleeping bags to homeless on his birthday: Pope Francis celebrated his 78th birthday this week by donating 400 sleeping bags to homeless people around Rome. And he's got more help in store for them.
- #illridewithyou triumphs amid hostage situation: In the midst of a deadly hostage situation in Sydney, Australia, an encouraging storyline emerged: Australians came out en masse on social media to proclaim that intolerance will not be tolerated. The #illridewithyou hashtag rapidly went viral, reportedly after a woman offered her support to Muslim train rider.
- As brothers bicker on TV, mom calls in: As pundits Brad Woodhouse and brother Dallas sparred on TV from opposite ends of the political spectrum, an unexpected peacemaker phoned in: their mom. She asked her boys to take it easy on each other around the holidays.
