ST. LOUIS — A person was killed and three others injured in a Christmas Eve shooting in downtown St. Louis.

It happened late afternoon Wednesday at 17th and Pine.

St. Louis police spokeswoman Schron Jackson says officers were called to a shooting around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and found four people had been shot. She says one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

St. Louis Fire Capt. Garon Mosby says the three injured people were taken to a hospital and are in critical condition.

Other details were not immediately available, and a possible motive was not immediately clear.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the shootings occurred at a convenience store.

The violence happened hours after authorities released a surveillance video Wednesday showing a confrontation that ended the night before with a white police officer killing an armed black man in Berkeley, a St. Louis suburb.

Tuesday night's shooting occurred at the side of a gas station about 5 miles northwest of Ferguson, where a white police officer fatally shot unarmed Michael Brown in August, sparking months of civil unrest.

The 18-year-old suspect, identified as Antonio Martin of St. Louis, was armed with a loaded 9mm handgun, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said. Martin died at the scene.
