Sisters, 11, 15, held in death of 16-year-old brother

Eleven-year-old and 15-year-old sisters have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of their 16-year-old brother, the Columbia County, Fla., sheriff's office is saying.

The sisters, of White Springs, Fla., were charged with premeditated murder in the death Monday of their brother, whose name authorities did not give.

Parents Keith and Misty Kornegay, 37 and 33, have been arrested with child neglect for failing to properly supervise the children, according to the sheriff's office. A 3-year-old girl was placed in the care of child welfare authorities.

The developments unfolded on Monday. The two girls shot their brother Monday night and walked out of their home in White Springs, Fla., News4Jax and the sheriff's office reported. A police officer spotted them and questioned them, prompting them to tell the officer that a shooting had taken place at their home, according to News4Jax.

The officer contacted the sheriff's office. When authorities arrived at the address, they found the teen boy dead on the living room floor with a gunshot wound, the sheriff's office said.

Authorities say they believe that Ariel, the 15-year-old, took the gun from her parents' bedroom. The parents were out of town at the time of the incident, according to authorities.

Ariel told the White Springs police officer that her brother had beaten her up on Monday, Deputy Murray Smith of the sheriff's office told NBC.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the home in 2010 to investigate inappropriate behavior between the older sister and the teen who died, News4Jax reported.
